MADE IN ITALY AT THE FOREFRONT AT THE FT. LAUDERDALE BOAT SHOW 2017

UCINA CONFINDUSTRIA NAUTICA AND ICE COLLABORATE TO SUPPORT ITALIAN EXPORTS IN THE USA

The 58th edition of the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show concludes today, November 5th in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, USA; there were over 1.200 boats on display and the event attracted about 100.000 visitors. UCINA Confindustria Nautica and ICE – the Italian agency for promoting Italian companies abroad – organised a group of companies to offer support in the development of their businesses and to help them network. The collective of Italian companies had a space inside the event’s Super Yacht Pavilion.

There were 10 Italian companies in the group. These were: Lomac Nautica, Viraver Technology, Schenker Italia, Atep Italia, Vitrifrigo, Opacmare, Boat Lift, Aries (a special company that is part of CCIAA from Trieste), Canard Yachts and Ascom. On top of these companies, Italy was also represented by others that are associates of UCINA Confindustria Nautica that had their own display spaces at the FLIBS, an important event in the US market which is the largest export market for the Italian recreational boating sector and the largest market in the world in terms of number of hobbyists, number of vessels manufactured and for sector-wide turnover. Some of the UCINA member companies that were displaying at FLIBS were: Austin Parker Yachts, CMC Marine, Gianneschi Pumps and Blowers, Monte Carlo Yachts, Overmarine, Rossinavi, Sanlorenzo, Valdenassi Emanuele Maria, Yacht Controller and ZAR Formenti.

There was also a space dedicated to the 57th Genoa Boat Show in the Super Yacht Pavilion at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. This past edition of the GBS, held in late September, attracted 148,000 visitors. 1,100 boats were on display with 884 brands present, numbers that are very similar to the ones at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. Once again in 2017, the GBS confirmed that it is the most important event dedicated to the recreational boating sector in all of the Med and that it plays an important role in promoting the nautical sector in Italy.

At the conclusion of the USA event, everyone seemed happy with the results. The following are comments from some of the top names present at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show 2017 that confirm its key role in the world of recreational boating:

Carla Demaria, President of Montecarlo Yachts and of Ucina Confindustria Nautica: “This was a very good FLIBS. The positive signals that confirm that the international market is in good shape reinforce those that we already got at the recently concluded boat shows in Cannes, Genoa and Monaco. This very important trend will reflect positively on the entire Mediterranean area.”

Maurizio Balducci, CEO of Overmarine and Vice President of Ucina Confindustria Nautica: “We’re very happy with the way this edition of the FLIBS went because it confirms that the American market is healthy. The US is one of the main markets for our Mangusta line and the FLIBS has offered us a key opportunity to present our Open yachts, a line that is already very popular in the USA . We also introduced the new yachts in the Mangusta Oceano displacement and the Mangusta Gransport fast displacement lines.”

Federico Rossi, CEO of Rossinavi: “We have been working in the USA for three years now and this year is looking to be as good as last year was. We are happy to announce that at the upcoming edition of the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show we’ll be displaying a new 63m yacht purposed created for the American market.”

Michele Marzucco, Quick USA:  “Right from the start, the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show has offered us the chance to exchange and create value with our clients. We’re very happy with the number of visitors to our stand and with the interest that both shipyards and clients showed in our new line of MC2 anti-roll gyro stabilizers. The FLIBS offered us the chance to present our new anti-roll products whose innovative technology will satisfy clients and make their experience on the water even more comfortable and pleasurable.”

Alessandro Gianneschi, CEO of Gianneschi Pumps and Blowers: “We scheduled the inauguration of our new Showroom USA located in Fort Lauderdale to coincide with the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show 2017. This is the capital of boating in the USA. The new showroom is in a strategic location for servicing yachts all over the world because it also includes a warehouse space where we can keep spare parts and components for servicing requests from new and previous clients.”

Piero Formenti, owner of Zar Formenti and Vice President of Ucina Confindustria Nautica: “Once again here in the States we have gotten concrete proof that the nautical market is coming back. We have consolidated our sales network and now have a distributor and 9 dealers to cover the whole US market. Our tenders are our best sellers, but the US market is also beginning to appreciate our pleasure inflatables.”

Riccardo Verde, owner of Schenker Watermakers: “As far as we’re concerned the FLIBS has confirmed a positive moment for the nautical industry, a trend that we already felt at the first European boat shows earlier in the season.  There is still some doubt on how the exchange rate Euro/dollar will go, but the current rates are better for the export market than they were in the past few years. To be successful in the hard-to-enter US market you need to have strong local partners or offices in the US. Once again, ICE and UCINA did a very good job of organising the collective group of Italian companies to bring to this event.”

In the year 2016, Italian exports of sport and recreational boats to the USA had a turnover of over 400 million Euros, a 17,7% gain on the year 2015. (from “La Nautica in Cifre 2017” – the statistical report done by UCINA Confindustria Nautica’s research department in partnership with Fondazione Edison and Assilea, with the patronage of Italy’s Ministero delle Infrastrutture e dei Trasporti).

ICE and UCINA Confindustria Nautica’s collaboration will continue in 2017 at METS in Amsterdam (November 14-16, 2017) and at Nautic in Paris(December 2-10). In early 2018 they will be together again at BOOT Düsseldorf  (January 20-28), the Dubai International Boat Show (February 27 – March 3) and at the Singapore Yacht Show (April 12-15, 2018).
