AWARD CEREMONY FOR FIV SAILING SCHOOLS

“SENTINELLE DEL MARE” – PRESERVING BIODIVERSITY

18TH BOAT OF THE YEAR AWARD, PROMOTED BY LEADING MAGAZINE VELA E MOTORE

A full roster of special events provided visitors with a fun Sunday out this week at the 59th Genoa International Boat Show.

FIV Sailing Schools Award Ceremony

Once again, this year saw the Italian Sailing Federation award Italy’s best sailing schools during the Genoa International Boat Show, for their number of registered members, meeting participations and quality. The Federation’s President Francesco Ettorre alongside the National Councillor Ignazio Florio Pipitone awarded this year’s top ten. First place went to Venice’s Compagnia della Vela followed by the Italian Yacht Club, Circolo Remiero-Velico Terracina, LNI Ostia, Club Nautico Capodimonte, LNI Anzio, Planet Sail Bracciano, Circolo Velico Ventotene, Yacht Club Santo Stefano and Varazze Club Nautico.

This was also a chance to discuss the many initiatives of each club, including differently abled sailing, bringing children closer to the world of sailing from schools along with adults as well, inspiring more and more competitive sailors in a fun way, all while teaching the importance of sustainability.

Sentinelle del mare: a citizen science project

Today saw the presentation of the second year of activities carried out as part of the citizen science project “Sentinelle del mare”, founded by Confturismo-Confcommercio with the partnership of the University of Bologna Alma Mater Studiorum. The research was based on monitoring marine biodiversity, with a specific focus on plastic in the sea, a growing threat for biodiversity, for the environment and our own health. This year the project took place “at sea” on a ship sailing along Liguria’s Levante coast line.

18th Boat of the Year Award: the winners

Just like last year the Genoa International Boat Show hosted the Boat of the Year Award: the magazine Vela e Motore handed out prizes to the winners of five competing categories: Rizzardi INsix for the Motorboat category, Italia Yachts 11.98 for Sailing, the electric Ernesto runabout for Watercrafts, Lagoon Sixty7 for multihulls and Salpa Soleil 42 for RIBs. The event, now having reached its 18th edition, has adapted and changed over the years: since 2018 voting has become open to the everyone letting readers vote for boats online via the official Vela e Motore website. This year’s edition saw three times the number of votes compared to last year.
